Clergy

Hartshorn Murphy, Interim Rector

The Reverend Hartshorn Murphy comes to St. Alban's with a wealth of experience in the Church. He received his B.A. from the University of Maryland, and his M. Div. from Virginia Theological Seminary. After a curacy in Baltimore, he became a Vicar in Milwaukee, before moving to Los Angeles. In our diocese he has served as the Rector of St. Philip's in Los Angles, Archdeacon for Congregational Development for Bishop Fred Borsch, and Rector of St. Augustine's, Santa Monica. While he worked for Bishop Borsch, he supervised forty missions and two parishes as evangelism officer and interim deployment officer, and created a program for clergy in transition. In his retirement, he has served as a sabbatical supply priest and interim rector. 

 

Hartshorn is married to Marla Harris Murphy, and they have one adult son, Taran, who is living in Baltimore.

Warner Traynham, Pastoral Assistant

Reverend Warner R. Traynham is a graduate of Dartmouth College and the Protestant Episcopal Theological Seminary in Virginia. He began his ministry as Assistant at St. James Episcopal Church in Baltimore, Maryland. He then served as Vicar of St. Philip's Episcopal Church in Annapolis, Maryland, followed by Associate Episcopal Chaplain to Harvard and Radcliff, Rector of St. Cyprian's Parish in Roxbury, Massachusetts, and Director of Black Studies at Boston Theological Institute where he wrote "Christian Faith in Black and White: A Primer in Theology from the Black Perspective." From 1974-1983, Revernd Traynham served as Dean of the Tucker Foundation and Chaplain at Dartmouth College in Hanover, New Hampshire. In 1983 Reverend Traynham moved to Los Angeles to serve as Rector of St. John's Episcopal Church in downtown Los Angeles before retiring in 2001. During his 18-year tenure at St. John's, Reverend Traynham served on the Council of the College of Preachers, President of the Standing Committee of the Diocese of Los Angeles, the boards of Carter House and St. John's Well Child and Family Center, as well as numerous other committees and commissions. Until recently, Reverend Traynham served as Assisting Priest at Holy Faith Episcopal Parish. A long time civil rights activist and advocate of equal rights, Reverend Traynham has worked tirelessly for full inclusion of all in church and society. Reverend Traynham frequently presides and preaches at St. Alban's.

Marianne Zahn, Minister for Christian Formation, Children

The Reverend Marianne Zahn has served in the Diocese of Los Angeles since her ordination to the priesthood in 2013. She received her B.F.A. from New York University in Drama, and her M. Div. from Fuller Seminary, specializing in worship, theology and the arts. She has worked in theater, and has served as a hospital chaplain.  At her previous parish she was responsible for ministry to children, youth, and families.

The Vestry consists of elected members of the parish who serve for a three year term.  They lead the congregation in our mission and ministry.

Staff

Brian Archer, Building Superintendent

Brian helps to oversee our facility repairs and maintenance. He serves as a LEM (lay eucharistic minister) for our 8:00 a.m. service and is pursuing his Ph.D. in biochemistry at UCLA.

Donald Caldwell, Choral Director

Choral director Donald Caldwell for 36 years was a university choral/orchestral conductor, having taught in New England, Nova Scotia, Chicago and recently for 24 years at Caltech.  He holds a DMA from the University of Illinois. Since 2006 he has primarily pursued vocal music as a church soloist/ section leader at Burbank United Methodist and St. Martin of Tours Catholic Church in Brentwood.  He has sung in a variety of choral ensembles and performed in local opera.  He is also quite familiar with St. Albans, having graduated as a Bruin in ‘65 (washing dishes on Sorority row!).  

Don currently works for Apple, Inc. in Northridge. His wife, Wendy, is a professional coach accompanist and he has two twenty something daughters.  He is also an avid ultra runner.  We are very excited to have Don with us this year.

Ivana and Marah Reyes, Child Care

Ivana and Marah Reyes are twin sisters from Los Angeles. Ivana is an Assistant Administrator at a day program for the developmentally disabled, while Marah works at a preschool where she helps aid the growth and development of young children. Both Ivana and Marah love to be of service to people, travel (especially back to their homeland of Belize), laugh, and connect with people! Ivana and Marah are truly excited to be apart of the St. Alban's family and look forward to spreading and teaching The Good News to God's children.

Dyan Sublett, Minister of Congregational Giving

Dyan Sublett has been a member of St. Alban’s since 1998.  In addition to her role as Minister of Congregational Giving, Ms. Sublett is a member of the choir, an acolyte and a lay Eucharistic minister.  She has served as both vestry member and senior warden of the vestry.  Read more on giving.
