Transitioning to a New Rector

A Transition Prayer

O Faithful God,

we ask you to guide us

in our time of transition.

We need your wisdom,

that we might be receptive

to change, conversion and growth.

We need your grace

to redirect our hearts

so that we may be willing

to offer ourselves in joyful service.

Do not allow fear, ignorance, or pride

to limit the work of your Spirit,

through Christ our Lord, Amen.

Interim Rector Selected

The Vestry has called, and the Bishop has approved, the appointment of The Reverend Hartshorn Murphy to be the Interim Rector upon the retirement of The Reverend Susan Klein on February 10, 2019

Hartshorn comes to St. Alban's with a wealth of experience in the Church. He received his B.A. from the University of Maryland, and his M. Div. from Virginia Theological Seminary. After a curacy in Baltimore, he became a Vicar in Milwaukee, before moving to Los Angeles. In our diocese he has served as the Rector of St. Philip's in Los Angles, Archdeacon for Congregational Development for Bishop Fred Borsch, and Rector of St. Augustine's, Santa Monica. While he worked for Bishop Borsch, he supervised forty missions and two parishes as evangelism officer and interim deployment officer, and created a program for clergy in transition. In his retirement, he has served as a sabbatical supply priest and interim rector.

Hartshorn is married to Marla Harris Murphy, and they have one adult son, Taran, who is living in Baltimore.

After Susan's last Sunday, she and Hartshorn will work during the next last two weeks of February on having the parish make a smooth transition as we search for our Fifth Rector. We give thanks to God that Hartshorn will be our Interim, and look forward to welcoming him to St. Alban's in February.
